Intensive reading programs can change a child's brain, says NPR

From the words of NPR: “Intensive reading programs can produce measurable changes in the structure of a child’s brain, according to a study in the journal Neuron.”  Last night, NPR aired some information on this recent study.  I’ll put the link here because I think it is worth passing along.  It is short and I encourage anyone to give it a listen:

Researchers Just and Keller analyzed through MRI children’s “white” matter of their brain.  The poor readers were enrolled in intensive remedial instruction.  After 100 hours of instruction the second MRI reveled that reading ability and brain tissue improved.

Proof that intensive reading programs, like Reading Horizons and Discover Intensive Phonics, can have the biggest impact on a child’s reading improvement.
