Good teachers are the foundation of good schools and successful learning environments. Improving skills and knowledge is an important investment – one of the most important that we’ll make.

It’s a fact, teaching is complex – 1/3 of all teachers leave the field within three years and 50 percent leave within five years (Ingersoll 2003). Plus consider that change is constant in the teaching profession – new administrators, curriculum, tests, rooms, students/parents – not to mention technology.
If you were to ask parents and community leaders what they want to see in education, they would most likely tell you that they want the best teachers available in the classroom. Professional development, inservice, and other training is the vehicle that school districts and school administrators must provide to ensure that educators are engaged in continuous professional learning and that they apply that newly-gained knowledge and skills to improve job performance.
At Reading Horizons we are committed to ongoing professional development and workshops like Intensive Phonics Overview, Intensive Phonics Implementation, Coaching and Certified Instructor training. Providing ongoing training is one way to show our teachers that we value them enough to give them the tools they need to accomplish the mission of educating our youth.
We'd like to hear about the best inservice or training workshop that you’ve attended?
"My interest was piqued, but I approached training with a cautious attitude. Many programs promise much but, in reality, deliver little. I left training impressed and energized. I put it to work in that 1st grade classroom and saw immediate results."
