Reading Horizons Cares

by Christine

In light of the recent earthquake in Japan and, the countless children and adults who are suffering for want of basic needs in other places throughout the world, we dedicate this poem, I Care, written by Reading Horizons' Advisory Council member, Perry Kassing.

I Care

If some few words which I might speak
Would bring you comfort or relief,
Then let me break my silent reverence
And speak the words clearly, heart to heart,
Across the space that lies between strangers.
So many words from which to choose…
The words I choose to speak are these;
“I care”.

And if a touch might be enough

To calm you in your grief.
Then I extend my hand across the distance
For you to take and place, palm down,
Upon that tender hurt. So that
The gentle warmth of touch
May penetrate, and seal upon your heart
The promise that I make; which promise is,
“I care”.

Thank you Perry. We do care.

Our commitment is, and will be, to do our part to ensure that children and adults have the right tools to learn to read. We will continue to teach, advocate, and donate resources to improve English literacy throughout the world.

We know you care too. Tell us how you’ve made a difference in your community... in the world today. We’d love to hear about it!
