Patricia Duffley-Renow is a certified rehabilitation counselor, assistant technology practitioner, and literacy instructor for individuals with disabilities. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Tennessee. She holds a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees and is currently pursuing a doctorate in adult education with a cognate in reading education at the University of Tennessee. She is a member of the International Reading Association and a consultant to American Foundation for the Blind, where she trains individuals to teach literacy skills to the visually impaired. Duffley-Renow has spent time as a literacy volunteer and made a presentation at the Pro Literacy Conference with June Crawford of the National Institute for Literacy. She received the Outstanding Student Award in her master’s program in rehabilitation.
Duffley-Renow has used Reading Horizons since 1995 and has seen impressive results in her students. She is currently working with a police officer who has severe learning disabilities. Using Reading Horizons in conjunction with another program, she has seen progress after only three lessons. She also worked with a man who was told by a psychologist that he would never read. After using the program for about six months, he passed his state exam and graduated with a regular high school diploma.
