Research Supporting the New Features of Reading Horizons v5
Thursday, May 27, 2010

We at Reading Horizons are committed to presenting quality information in our quarterly Branch Out webinars. Generally, we try to keep the webinars neutral, but with the release of Reading Horizons v5, there has been an outpouring of interest in what changes have been made and the reasoning behind these changes. Whether you are a novice or a long time user of Reading Horizons, this webinar will present what research says about reading and how we have implemented that research into our new v5 software.

Research Supports Explicit, Systematic, and Intensive Phonics Instruction for Both Children and Adults.

Findings from the National Reading Panel, in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), show overwhelming evidence that explicit, systematic phonics is necessary for reading success. Systematic phonics instruction teaches a planned sequence of phonics elements rather than highlighting elements as they happen to appear in a text.

Research findings from the Institute of Education Reform and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development have shown the importance of:

  • Explicit, intensive work in sound/symbol associations.
  • Helping students understand the sound structure of the language on a phonemic level.

Research studies conducted in institutions nationwide have proven the efficacy of our method. Click on the links below to learn more:
